The Dialogue:

Robert: Are you ready for Easter?
Anne: Yes! I got all the sweets for all the kids.
Robert: So, what are the plans?
Anne: Oh, on Sunday morning we’re going to decorate eggshells with the kids.
Robert: That’s nice! Then what?
Anne: We’re going to have a family barbecue.
Robert: Are you going to have an Easter egg hunt?
Anne: Oh, you bet! I am going to hide them really well this time!

Vocabulary Expansion:

All the sweets for all the kids

“All” is the word you can use to refer to a whole group, to “every item” or “every person” in that category. So if the character got sweets for “all the kids” it means every child in her house will get sweets. Here are some examples:

  • All the tables are ready, you can come in.
  • We need to invite all the members to the event.
  • Do you know the names of all your colleagues?

We’re going to have a family barbecue

There is more than one way to talk about the future in English, and the difference between future forms is quite subtle! Here in today’s dialogue the characters used “to be going to”, which refers to future plans, related both to things in your control, life weekend events and things out of your control, like the weather. Check out these examples:

  • We are going to make dinner tomorrow night.
  • It’s not going to rain this weekend.
  • Are you going to work here next month?

Hide them really well this time!

“Really” is an adverb, which means we can use it to define verbs and adjectives, here in this dialogue, you can see “really”, being used to intensify “well”, which is an adjective. This kind of structure is very common and happens with other adverbs too! Let’s look at some examples:

  • The test was really difficult this year.
  • Tom was deeply offended by the comments.
  • We are eternally grateful for your help.

We hope this content was helpful and that you enjoyed the episode! Don’t forget that you can listen to it as many times as you want and that the more you practice, the more confident you will feel. See you next time!
