The Dialogue:
Kelly: Sweetheart, are you okay? It seems like you have a hangover.
Bob: Nah, I just had a few drinks with my friends last night.
Kelly: Just a few? I know what you did last night, young man.
Bob: What?
Kelly: You sang Madonna at the karaoke, you danced Macarena, and later you proposed to an officer!
Bob: How do you know all that?
Kelly: You posted everything on Facebook while you were doing it!
Vocabulary Expansion:
A few
The word “few” is used to describe countable things in small quantities. It’s easily mistaken for “less” or “little” but it’s very different! While “few” refers to countable things, “less” and “little” refer to uncountable things, like “water” or “money”. Let’s read some more examples with “few”:
I just had a few drinks with my friends last night.
We need a few days to organize everything.
She needs to ask you a few questions.
Propose
If you want your boyfriend or girlfriend to marry you, you have to “propose”, this verb’s most common use is in the sense of asking someone to marry you but, in more formal contexts, it can also mean “suggest”. Check out some examples including both uses:
You proposed to an officer!
I propose that we talk about this on Saturday.
When are you going to propose to your girlfriend?
While
This word means “at the same time as”, so when something is happening simultaneously with something else, you can use “while” to describe it. Here are some examples to make it more clear:
You posted everything on Facebook while you were doing it!
Can you make dinner while I vacuum the carpet?
The teacher was quiet while Kathie was explaining it
